I-X Indoor Amusement Park

For a month each spring, the massive tank factory/plane factory turned convention center turns into a mini carnival in 20 acres of space. The pop-up offers Ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds and state fair favorites that jerk, spin and toss guests with iron stomachs.

The amusement park also features a few new rides this year, including a giant tidal wave that allows two people to climb onto mechanical surf boards and try to stay on top as the waves sway every which indoor mall amusement park way. A gondola-style Ferris wheel pokes out of the roof to give visitors views of the surrounding airport and city skyline. And the Mountain Dew Thrill City has added the Crazy Mouse Spinning Roller Coaster and the classic Freakout, which churns out some serious screams with non-stop spinning cars.

Almost 70 rides are spread out throughout the I-X Center, with plenty of family fun for kids and teens as well. The attraction isn’t on the scale of a major theme park, but it’s still impressive by mall amusement park standards and provides an enjoyable preview of summer. And the best part: if you bring in a Diet Pepsi or Mountain Dew can, you get one general admission ticket for half price.

American Dream Mall

Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, American Dream Mall offers world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment. The megacomplex houses the largest indoor water park in North America and a year-round indoor ski slope. It also boasts a DreamWorks indoor theme park and Nickelodeon Universe indoor theme park. The Dream Wheel offers sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline from 27 climate-controlled gondolas. Guests can savor the sights with a ride or upgrade to VIP seating for an even more luxurious experience.

DreamWorks Water Park features thrilling attractions such as Far Far A Bay, the world’s biggest indoor wave pool and Carnivortex body slide, a heart-pounding ride that begins with a trapdoor capsule drop. Dreams Mall has a lot to offer. There is a wave pool, an ice skating rink, a water park and an amusement park in its three million square feet. It is a great place to visit with kids or friends on a cold or rainy day. The best part is that everything is indoors, so you don’t have to worry about the weather. The only downside is that you need to purchase separate tickets for each attraction.

The owner of the complex, Triple Five Group, plans to open American Dream in phases known as “chapters.” Chapter 1 includes Thrills and Chills, which features the North America’s largest DreamWorks Water Park, Nickelodeon Universe theme park, onsite NHL size ice skating rink, Big SNOW Indoor Ski & Snow Park, SEA Life Aquarium, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, CMX Luxury Movie Theater, and a 300’ observation wheel.

Aside from the attractions, the American Dream Mall offers a variety of retail stores aimed at regular shoppers. These include Zara and Uniqlo, as well as more upscale brands like Balenciaga and Gucci. The mall also has a three-story candy store called ITSUGAR, which looks as if Willy Wonka designed it himself. It also has a miniature golf course with a neon glow-in-the-dark theme, called Blacklight Mini Golf. You can play a real game of Angry Birds here, too.
